CLAUDIA VAN NES
I always intended to be an artist. I majored in art and studied art in Paris, but life took its turns, and I ended up a journalist, although I continued to take classes, draw and paint.
When I finally left journalism seven years ago, people asked, “What are you going to write now?” but the great---or even lousy---American novel was not in me. I didn’t intend to write; I wanted to paint and have done so ever since. I attend workshops, take classes, paint once a week with four other artists as well as on my own, and exhibit my work widely.
Claudia paints mainly in acrylics in a sort of fanciful style. She hsa a special affinity for fruits and vegetables, probably because she is a fanatical gardener, but whatever I paint the subject matter is always familiar and close to home.
I am a founder and a board member of Maple & Main Gallery in Chester where my paintings are on display and my work has been bought by a number of people around the country.
