Reflections, glow and luminosity intrigue me. I strive to capture a sense of place and mood through my oil paintings. I love the dramatic effects of weather on the landscape and how light and reflection changes the mood of the painting. The use of texture and a series of glazes add depth to my tonal approach. Though I sometimes paint on linen, I more often paint on aluminum or copper. These ultra smooth surfaces provide luminosity, vibrant color and visible brushstrokes that add interest and depth to my work. Generally I begin a painting with a simple sketch and a series of photographs and I let my intuition guide me as I work to create a painting that evokes atmosphere and a sense of place.
